New Zealand Begins Review of Air Pollution Standards

Restrictions on industry are expected to be set after 2013 if air quality standards are not met. The particular issues under review are minimizing industry’s need for special permits, whether the air quality standard has the right cost/benefit balance and whether the 2013 timeline is reliable. The review will be conducted as per the national environmental standard development process under the Resource Management Act 1991. The report is due February 2010.
