Public Trust Over Politics: Why We Oppose Stevan Pearce for Director of the Bureau of Land Management
Millions of people who hike, hunt, fish, and find peace on our shared lands have a stake in this decision. RRI and 153 partner groups are urging the Senate to reject Stevan Pearce’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). His record favors selling off public lands and elevating oil and gas interests over communities, wildlife, and the places we love.

The True Cost of the Border Wall: Environmental Destruction, Community Harm, and Billions in Waste
We have joined dozens of environmental, tribal, human rights, and conservation organizations in strong opposition to a new proposal in the House Committee on Homeland Security’s budget reconciliation package that would allocate $46.5 billion for border wall construction. If passed, this proposal would more than double the amount historically spent on walls and barriers—wasting billions of taxpayer dollars, destroying critical ecosystems, and violating the rights of communities living along the U.S.–Mexico border.
Crane Letter 2024
As we approach our40th anniversary, the RRI team is filled with pride and gratitude for the incredible journey we have undertaken together. When Huey founded his fledgling “think and do” tank in 1985, he had already built an astonishing record of environmental accomplishments. One of these achievements—saving the Marin Headlands—was honored this year by the National Park Service (NPS).

Public Comment Period on Point Reyes Elk Fence Now Open
For decades misguided park policies have condemned hundreds of tule elk to zoo-like conditions behind an 8-foot fence at the northern end of the Point Reyes peninsula. We now have the opportunity to change the course of elk management at the Seashore.
Yvon Chouinard Says We Need to Protect Point Reyes
My life has been indescribably enriched by public lands, and one of the most beautiful on earth is fast losing its wildness: Point Reyes National Seashore. Tragically, the very organization charged with protecting Point Reyes, the national park, is hastening its demise.
Located in the densely populated San Francisco Bay Area, Point Reyes is a refuge and wilderness destination for locals and visitors from around the world. An internationally recognized biodiversity hotspot, Point Reyes stretches across thousands of acres of sandy dunes, rocky beaches, coastal grasslands, and expansive marine habitats.
